EMANUELE GEROSA | DOCUMENTARY FILM DIRECTOR

Emanuele Gerosa was born in 1975 in Rovereto in Italy; in 2001 he graduated in Contemporary History from the University of Bologna and the same year he began working as a filmmaker. He currently lives in Rovereto in Italy.

 

In 2008 he began collaborating with an Italian NGO to direct the first and second medium-length documentaries. The first one, Kamenge Northern Quarters, was completed in 2010 and the second, Lion Souls, was completed in 2012. Both films have been selected in numerous film festivals winning some awards: “Silver Audience Award” at the 15° Amnesty International Film Festival (2010 - Canada), “Best Documentary Production” at the 26° Black International Cinema Berlin (2011 - Germany), “Best Medium-Length Documentary” at the 7° Montreal International Black Film Festival (2011 - Canada), “Jury Prize in the Documentaries Competition” at the 16° Ismailia International Film Festival (2013 - Egypt).

 

In 2015 he finished his first feature-length documentary entitled Between Sisters. The film has been selected for numerous film festivals and has received various awards: “Cinema AmoRe” at the 64° Trento Film Festival (2016 - Italy), “Best Film” at the 18° Ismailia International Film Festival (2016 - Egypt), “Best Film” given by EFCA - Egyptian Film Critics Association (2016 - Egypt), “Special Mention” at the 61° Seminci - Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid (2016 - Spain) and “Special Mention Audio Visual Discovery” at the Prix Scam 2017 given by Society of French Authors (2017 - France).

 

In 2019 Emanuele completed his second feature-length documentary film with the title One More Jump. The film has been selected in numerous film festivals and has received various awards: “Cinema AmoRe” at the 68° Trento Film Festival (2020 - Italy), “Prize of the Russian Guild of Film Critics” at the 16° Kazan International Film Festival (2020 - Russia ), “Special Mention” at the 14° SalinDocFest (2020 - Italy), “PRIX EUROPA Best European TV Documentary of the Year 2020” at the 34° Prix Europa (2020 - Germany), “Prix des Jeunes de la Méditerranée”, “Prix Première Oeuvre” and “Prix à la diffusion 2M (Maroc)” at the 24° PriMed - International Festival of Mediterranean Documentary & Reportage (2020 - France), “Honorable Mention” at the 10° International Film Maker Festival of New York (2021 - USA), “Special Mention” at the 22° Ismailia International Film Festival (2016 - Egypt), “Jury Prize PerSo Cinema Italiano” at the 7° PerSo - Perugia Social Film Festival 2021 (2021 - Italy), “Étoiles de la Scam” at the 16° Prix Scam 2021 (2021 - France) and “Audience Award” at the 15° Faito Doc Festival (2022 – Italy).

 

Between 2020 and 2022 he directed the Italian episode of the documentary series for TV entitled Cash, produced by the Danish production company Danish Documentary for the Danish TV channel DR1.

 

Since 2021 Emanuele has been a member of the European Film Academy.
